Bucket Test
Performing a Bucket Test is an easy way to determine if you’re losing more water than just evaporation.
Instructions:
Fill the pool to the middle of the skimmer box/the proper level.
Use a 5-gallon bucket and fill it with water 2-3” from the top. Place on the first or second step in the pool. If necessary, anchor the bucket by placing a rock inside it.
Mark the water level (with a crayon, Sharpie, or piece of tape) on the inside of the bucket and on the skimmer box.
Keep the pump running.
After 24 hours, compare the two levels. If the pool water (outside mark) goes down more than the inside water level of the bucket, there is probably a leak.
Try the same procedure with the pump off and take note of the results.
Check the bucket at exactly 24 hours to get the most accurate results possible. If it rains or if the pool is used during the testing period, the test will need to be restarted. Make sure all valves are closed.

Results:
If the pool water loss is 0.5” or more than the bucket evaporation, the pool may be leaking. Call us if you have any questions about the results of the test or if you need to make an appointment.
